Whether you’re hosting friends and family or keeping celebrations cosy, these celebratory menus bring the joy of Diwali straight to your table.

An elevated Indian feast for two, perfect for an intimate Diwali celebration at home. Begin with peppery grilled prawns with garlic butter and crisp pea and potato samosas served with tamarind chutney. For the main event, confit duck legs with perfectly crisp skin are paired with a rich, coconut-based Chettinad curry sauce. On the side, enjoy creamy, butter-rich black lentil dal, fragrant rice pulao with cashews and barberries, and a refreshing pickled onion and pomegranate kachumber salad to balance the richness. To finish, a decadent chocolate and black cardamom crèmeux is served with the more traditional gulab jamun – deep-fried dumplings soaked in fragrant syrup – a sweet treat reserved for special occasions like Diwali.

Diwali Confit Duck

A celebratory feast for two, exclusively for Diwali. Snack on fenugreek-flavoured methi mathri crackers while assembling your starters: prawn cocktail in delicate coconut moilee sauce, served in crisp lettuce cups as elegant canapés. For the main, traditional lamb biryani features lamb marinated overnight in yoghurt and spices, braised with tomatoes, curry leaf and green chilli, layered with rice and sealed with a puff-pastry parda. Served with rich curry gravy, beetroot coconut poriyal and cooling onion raita. To finish, enjoy a traditional Kolkata-style bhapa doi – a steamed yoghurt pudding lightly flavoured with rose and topped with crunchy pistachios.

Diwali Lamb Biryani

Crisp methi mathri crackers are topped with a spiced chickpea puree, while classic prawn cocktail is served in lettuce cups and given a south Indian twist with a fragrant coconut sauce. Dip earthy beetroot croquettes into tangy ketchup, while samosas are stuffed with tender confit duck and served alongside a fragrant coriander chutney. Atul’s signature golden puff pastry pies are filled with tender chicken tikka masala.

He began serving his version of the iconic Indian dish at a series of pop-ups in Mumbai, where it proved so popular that it quickly gained cult status. In 2015, he set up a kitchen in Mumbai, followed by several stores across India which led to him being asked to appear as a judge on MasterChef Australia. As well as opening several more restaurants worldwide, Saransh recently brought his butter chicken to London in the form of a long-term residency at Carousel.
